Honolulu inspires your English

Honolulu

Located on the island of Oahu, in the state of Hawaii, Honolulu is the one of the most visited cities and tourist destinations in the United States. Technically, the city is about 2,000 square miles in size, as a clause in its constitution states that any island that is not claimed by another country belongs to the city of Honolulu. These islands are also known as the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.

The capital of Hawaii is also surrounded by more than one hundred beaches, making this a prime location for some sun tanning and swimming! The name of the city itself also means “calm port,” so the tranquility the city can bring you is already mentioned in the name itself.

The city is also renowned for its culture. It has a rich history, with evidence revealing that there were inhabitants as early as the 11th century. The culture itself is extremely Pacific, meaning that many oriental populations have made Honolulu home; these include the Polynesians, Japanese, Chinese… Just try the inspired cuisine, and you’ll be thankful for all the diversity the city has to offer!

The island that houses Honolulu, Oahu, is actually also home to one of the largest mountain ranges in the world; most of which is actually underwater!

Also, the first European visitor was Captain William Brown, who explored the islands in 1794.
